These candlesticks are a perfect example of how painting something can make such a transformation!  Remember that teal table?  I used some of the leftover paint that I had from that, and when the paint was dry I rubbed specific areas with sandpaper.

I look through my instagrams from the past month and way too many of them look like this.  My June challenge... take pictures of things that aren't so sweet.

I had a great year teaching elementary art- but am off to teach high school again next year and am pretty excited for what lies ahead. Here's a few images I took while wrapping up this year!

When I first laid eyes on this table, I knew it had potential.  With the ornate detail, I knew that with the right paint color this table could truly have a transformation.  My grandmother actually gave me this table, and YES.. she knew I had the intention of painting it!

What it was BEFORE....

I mixed up my own teal/turquoise color and painted the inset of the table navy.

 

 

 

And then sanded it in strategic areas once it was dry to give a slightly distressed look...

Here's a project my sister and I embarked on together. She painted a lamp for her apartment, and I painted a lamp for my house...twice. I cannot even begin to explain the level of unattractive 80'sness that revolved around these lamps before they had a makeover. Each one was a thrift store find for about $3.  Unfortunately, I don't have a before picture of my lamp, but here is my sister's before.

Why the transformation from the 1st attempt? I kept it like this for several months.. but I am currently introducing some new bolder colors into our living room and it didn't make the cut.
