paper sculptures

 

I just have to share the paper sculptures my Kindergarten and 1st graders have been making! They loved learning about abstract art and did such a great job creating an abstract composition! These are 100% out of recycled materials. Cardboard from old boxes and paper scraps out of the scrap bin.  These are just a few that I hung up in the hallway.

We used my favorite glue to construct these! Elmer's ART PASTE. Its actually made for paper mache, but has just enough hold without being runny.  I gave each table an assortment of strips and showed them how to easily roll the strip around a pencil.  Using a small brush,apply just a little paste to form the circle and then put paste on the edge that will touch the cardboard and hold for a few seconds!

    What type of adhesion did the students use to stick the paper to the cardboard? I would assume white school glue...draw a line of glue the same shape as the end of the paper, then just press the edge of the paper into the glue. Yes?

      Elmer's art paste! It is sold in a box and then you mix it yourself! I mix it up in baby food jars so that multiple students/tables can use it and it stores well!

    you can dip the end in white glue then stick it to the board.

      At the beginning of the school year, things are always being unpacked, and new technology is coming in.. so there tends to be a surplus of boxes ready to be discarded. You can always send out a quick email too and there is plenty of cardboard that needs a home!

    Hot glue works great and I think I placed a small square of clear tape on the back before I placed glue so the removal did not rip the cardboard! Hope it works for you!

    I may try this. I will use cool melt (low temp) glue guns as I teach children in kinder how to use them safely.
